Open Question: All Celiacs/wheat intolerant...what are your thoughts?

I got terribly sick early in my pregnancy ( 6 weeks ) ...told I had a gastrointestinal flu. But the gastrointestinal symptoms never went away - only the aches/dehydration etc (flu symptoms) did. I have since been completely intollerant of what I self-diagnosed is gluten. Since I am pregnant the only test they could give me was the blood test for celiacs and it came up negative. Good news so far but I have stayed to a strict gluten-free diet and felt fine. A few times I have 'tested' my reaction to it and eaten bread or pasta and every time I would wind up getting abdominal pain/bloating/gas and diarhea roughly 24 hours later (is this what you have noticed or do you usually feel the reaction much sooner). I have no reaction to oats and don't believe I am feeling any symptoms from seasonings or small amounts of gluten. Two days ago I accidentally ate macaroni and cheese that had wheat in it (I bought the wrong box - an organic wheat macaroni). I noticed the mistake shortly after my dinner and have been awaiting the symptoms. Still almost 36 hours later - no severe abdominal pain - very little bowel change. I am afraid to try more foods because of how severe I have reacted to it in the past but am hopefull that this could all be pregnancy related. I am now 35 weeks pregnant. How soon did you react to eating gluten/wheat and do you have any advise on what to do with this newly apparent tollerance?  more

Open Question: I need to lose 20 pounds in 2 months!?

I want to lose 20 pounds before school starts which is 2 months away. I am 157 pounds and wanna be about 140ish. Everyday I have one egg for breakfast (flat like an omelet but nothing in it), a banana, and sometimes a piece of bread (if I workout that day) I usually have a salad for lunch and some chicken or a couple of pieces of Ham or Turkey on whole wheat bread For dinner I usually have grilled chicken and fruits and vegetables. I usually go to the gym 3 - 4 times a week. When I go to the gym I always go on the Elliptical trainer for exactly one hour. I burn 500 calories and go a distance of 4.5 miles . The only dessert i have is usually ice pops (sugar free) and drink lots of water. Is there anything else I should be doing or any changes I should make? Thanks I also gave up fast food, soda, sweets, and white bread.  more

Resolved Question: ahhh is this normal that i am eating this much?!?

okay my parents yell at me when i eat...because i had issues with food in the past...and i tend to binge sometimes & they don't want to hear me feeling guilty later so they always tell me to stop. so here's the deal.. i'm 5'3''..maybe a hair line under that, 20 yrs. and i currently weigh 104.4 & it's one in the morning. i lost weight from not eating due to my wisdom teeth. i used to weigh around 105-106. i'm starting to work out again after getting them out.. and i work out 3 days a week & do cardio for an hour & lift weights for about 20 minutes. my question is....is am i eating this much food because my body needs it in order to maintain it's weight? or am i just binge eating out of control due to gluttany or an actual problem. here is what i ate today for example on a day working out... b-oatmeal l-2 scrambled eggs w/low fat cheese s-tuna w/tiny bit of mayo on light wheat bread d-a cup & 1/2 of pasta with low fat cheese, 1/2 of a mini wheat bagel w/tiny bit of cream cheese, & 1/2 cup of corn without butter s-....okay like i said it's 1 in the morning and i got kind of hungry...so i ate a fat free fudge bar (60 cals), 1 nutrigrain crisp (50 cals), vanilla stix (90 cals), a handful of mixed trail nuts, 2 very small choc covered pretzels, like 3 combos, & a handful of party mix that contained doritos and cheetos. if my mom knew i ate that she would think there is something wrong with me. i feel ashamed for eating that food....but then again, this is why i'm asking if it's normal? please help me. i would like to know how many calories this all is, and how many calories i should be eating on days i do & don't work out both, and also what weight i should be at in order to avoid binging like this. i would really appreciate it if i got some good advice here...because i've been dealing with this for a while & nobody seems to help...i've already been to a nutritionist & psychologist. it's honestly not a serious problem at all because i don't have any issues with trying to lose weight..i just want to be healthy & normal. thanks  more

Open Question: Can somebody please help me on some weight loss tips?

I'm sick and tired of feeling pudgy and crappy...I'm currently 5'6 175lbs..i'd like to lose 30-40 pounds...actually, i kindve have a good idea what to do, but i just dont want to screw it up... for instance, a month ago i tried the "atkins diet"..while i loved the idea of eating meat, cheese and eggs... after about the first week i felt so carbohydrate deprived and drained, i didnt even make it half way through the first phase! the bottom line is, i dont like low carb diets, low sugar diets or low fat diets...i like a little bit of variety in my diet, something from everything... so heres my main question...if i use a diet consisting of turkey, chicken, fish, egg whites, fat free cheese, oatmeal, fruits, veggies, nuts, whole wheat bread, whole grain rice and keep it in a calorie deficit and exercise 5-6 days a week will i lose weight? the real thing im worried about is the whole wheat bread and rice..i wouldnt eat much at all...just 2 slices of bread on a sandwich for lunch and a half a cup of brown rice during dinner...thats all  more

Open Question: oh mann..would you consider this a binge?

okayyyy so i couldnt eat for 4 days due to wisdom teeth..but now that im recovered i kinda went a little crazy. here is what i ate.. is it less then 1800 calories or what? b-oatmeal l-yoplait fat free yogurt s-fudge bar, light wheat bread with jelly d-chicken lo mein (200 cals), & grilled chicken (small) s-a serving of breyer's french vanilla icecream s-1/2 poptart, 5 small choc covered pretzels with 2 tablespoons of nutella, & a handful of party mix that contained cheetos & doritos, & like 3 combos.  more

Resolved Question: Will Mega-T Green Tea actually boost my metabolism?

I've been dieting and exercising for a little over a year, but for the last 3 months I've been in a complete rut. My typical diet is this: Breakfast: Special K cereal (1 cup with fat free milk), water, and a banana Snack: I LOVE these Sweet 'N Salty snack bars I found. They're really filling and taste good. Lunch: A chef salad or a sandwich on wheat bread (I only eat wheat bread) and then I usually have a side of baby carrots and some sort of fruit (I love peaches and cherries. I just got strawberries and blueberries for the first time this season. A great change!) My afternoon snack is often a Kashi bar or some sort of fruit or veggie Then dinner is often just a small plate of whatever my mom makes (I make sure to have fruit and veggies with it) I avoid evening snacks, but if I must, I get some of that orville popcorn 100 calorie packs. For exercise I used to jog, but I've injured my knee (doc's still trying to figure it out) so I've taken to biking for an hour every other day and lifting weights. Even with all of this my weight has been fluctuating between 135 and 138. I'm only 5ft, so that's not what I should weigh. I've just bought Mega-T Green Tea because I'm thinking there MUST be something wrong with my metabolism if everything I'm doing isn't working. Do you think the Mega-T will help?  more

Resolved Question: Eat grilled chicken for diet!? All I want?

I'm on a diet. I jog/walk 5 miles today (1st day today) and am HELLA tired. All I ate was a bit of rice in the morning, and a 6 inch sub at Subway (wheat bread, fat-free dressing, chicken breast, every veggie, etc...) Now, I am reallyyyy hungry. What can I eat other than subway? Can I just buy chicken breast at market or something and just grill it and eat alot of it? I plan on putting just pepper and/or lemon. (no salt, sugar, etc). Is that ok? will it ruin my diet or is eating plain grilled chicken healthy for me and will i continue losing weight?  more

Resolved Question: Is Subway a good diet food?

I am on a diet, I walk/jog 2 miles in morning around 8 (mostly walk at 4.0 mph). Then I do the same thing again (jog/walk, 2 miles). I also do little bit of weight training like little bit of incline/bench press, dumbells, etc.. I am focused on losing weight than building muscles. However, I want to eat subway because it's pretty good and cheap. Can I lose weight by eating a footlong at subway or will eating that make me get fatter? I want subway to be my main diet. I plan on getting (Chicken breast, wheat bread, EVERY veggies, and fat-free dressings). What dressing can I get? Is it better to have no dressing? because if i do, the sub won't taste like anything without flavor...So, is subway a good diet food?  more

Resolved Question: can even a liberal obama supporter get how liberalism works in this story?

Barack the Farmer Once upon a time, on a farm in Virginia , there was a little red hen who scratched about the barnyard until she uncovered quite a few grains of wheat. She called all of her neighbors together and said, 'If we plant this wheat, we shall have bread to eat. Who will help me plant it?' 'Not I,' said the cow. 'Not I,' said the duck. 'Not I,' said the pig. 'Not I,' said the goose. 'Then I"ll do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so she did. The wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain. 'Who will help me reap my wheat?' asked the little red hen. 'Not I,' said the duck. 'Out of my classification,' said the pig. 'I'd lose my seniority,' said the cow. 'I'd lose my unemployment compensation,' said the goose. 'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so she did. At last it came time to bake the bread. 'Who will help me bake the bread?' asked the little red hen. 'That would be overtime for me,' said the cow. 'I'd lose my welfare benefits,' said the duck. 'I'm a dropout and never learned how,' said the pig. 'If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination,' said the goose. 'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen. She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see. They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share. But the little red hen said, 'No, I shall eat all five loaves.' 'Excess profits!' cried the cow. (Nancy Pelosi) 'Capitalist leech!' screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer) 'I demand equal rights!' yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson) The pig just grunted in disdain. (Ted Kennedy) And they all painted 'Unfair!' picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities. Then the farmer (Obama) came. He said to the little red hen, 'You must not be so greedy.' 'But I worked hard and earned the bread,' said the little red hen. 'Exactly,' said Barack the farmer. 'That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy and idle.' And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, 'I am grateful, for now I truly understand.' But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again baked bread because she joined the 'party' and got her bread free. And all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established. Individual initiative had died, but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared... so long as there was free bread that 'the rich' were paying for. EPILOGUE Bill Clinton is getting $12 million for his memoirs. Hillary got $8 million for hers. The i had dinner at like 5:00 pm, yes i k i didn't eat lunch because i ate breakfast late after my blood work from the doctor. Dinner was mashed real potatoes, some butter, green beans and chicken breast. Today i had for breakfast, a BIG bowl of cheerios, skim milk, sliced banana. Then i made a hot chocolate with marshmallows, then after that i went to dun-kin donuts and my boyfriends mom bought me another hot chocolate and they made me wait(DD) so they offered a free donut(which i wish i didnt take but it looked so delicious) and i got the strawberry frosted. So then i came home and had a whole wheat bread sandwich with 5 slices of turkey(50 Cal's) some lite mayo, a slice of cheese and potato chips(lays) i had a BUNCH. I was very upset with how much sugar ive had today because ive had ALOT because of binging this whole week and so. And i know its gonna turn into gross dimply fat :( I need to know some ways to gain good weight... Voting Question: Need help switching up my workout routine... dont want to plateau! any advice?? :)?

Ok... so about 5 weeks ago I started working out at a local gym.. I love it! I cant say I'll get tired of it because I feel tons better after I work out and I have way more energy, and it's just fun!!! I'm not worried about giving up, but Im worried I'll hit this Plateu every one keeps warning me about and I'd like if some one could mabe offer me a few suggestions. Heres what I typically do... Mondays: upperbody weights and 40 min of eliptical set on interval training. tuesdays: I do cardio for about 30-40 min on the eliptical again on interval. wednessdays: lower body weights and abs then about 30 min of cardio eliptical again at interval training. of thursdays: I do cardio only again for about 30-40 min.. again at interval setting. and on fridays I do mainly ab stuff and some back workouts and then cardio again on the eliptical about 30 40 min. so 5 days a week cardio and 3 days a week weights, but I like to work on my abs every day if I can. I also warm up before any work out with stretching and straddles and such. i am definately eating better, more veggies, more fruit, switched to wheat bread only months and months ago. no fast food at all, only water and low fat milk to drink and things like that. I dont have the money for personal training, my gym does not offer it for free... but they did warn me if i dont switch it up I will hit a platue.! The only thing I can tell you is that iam on the elipticals alot because for one i am very very top heavy and it hurts like hell to run on the tread mill! I get out of breath and I start getting cramps in my legs and Ive never been much of a runner on the tread mill for some reason. I can speed walk on it at an incline if that makes any difference....but im afraid ill get burned out on the treadmill... just never liked it much. Now... as for the stair climber i havent tried that a lot mabe I should give that a try one day, but that too is kinda tough on my knees since Ive recently about a year ago had knee surgery. But seriously if you see flaws in wht I am doing please tell me so I can have an idea on what to do to switch up my routine. i have lost 10 lbs in 5 weeks btw!! So it is working but they say after 6 weeks your body will get used to what you are doing and will stop buring calories as much. Also if you have any suggestions about how many calories I should burn on the machines and how many I should consume in a day to kinda balance it out so that I am loosing about 1-2 lbs a week that would be helpful as well. I am very dedicated now to working out.. i go 5 days a week and really want this with all that is in me. i am a 28 yr old female im 5'5 and weigh 188 lbs I was 198 when i started! i want to be healthy. Not skinny ...but fit! thanks to any one who can help!  more

Breakfast: eat two slices of toast and fruit then a snack three hours later: fruit/veggies. Lunch: healthy sandwich on wheat bread. then a snack three hours later, probably fruit/veggies. Then dinner; something healthy and filling. *I always had 2+ cokes a day, I have started eating healthy, and NO more cokes, only water now..* And I plan to exercise with an exercise bike, walking, and swimming. I used to never exercise, but the past three days, I have been on the exercise bike for 20-30 minutes. I plan to go walking and swimming as soon as school is out (a few days). I hope to lose 50-60 or more pounds by the new year or christmas. Is this a good plan? Feel free to suggest anything else!! Thanks Andy e.. a lot. Anyways i can't eat gluten and dairy cause i will get sick. And meat i watched this video and read about it how we produce meat to eat, and they beat the animals to death sometimes, they treat them badly, they position them to kill them in some cases, and they put chemicals in the animals! and it's bad for us-. Sugar: well i guess it's just better for you, did you know what appxx: humans eat 160 pounds of sugar each year. (ew) and the stupid thing is it's in fruits and stuff! However, I have discovered a discount grocery store and they have discovered the profit in selling GF products. Lately, they have been stocking up on GF goodies and for $1.29 a box I have been happy to sample everything they have. I have rated and reviewed some products below t more

Gluten-Free Communion Bread

I didn't take communion at church for several weeks after discovering I was wheat intolerant. Actually, the first Sunday I was still in wheat withdrawal and was really crabby, so I stayed home so as not to have to face, and abstain from, communion bread and all those wheaty cookies at coffee hour afterwards. The next morning, day number six with no wheat, was the day I woke up feeling wonderful and energetic, and began to celebrate the advantages of a wheat-free life. I did abstain for the more
