Lasik Recovery Questions and Answers

Resolved Question: For joining army/navy is it better to get LASEK or PRK?

I am going into the army/navy at 18 and maybe eventually the U.S navy seals.. i know to join army/marines you need 20/20 vision either corrected by lasik, lasek or prk or glasses/contacts. but i am not to interested in lasik because they cut a corneal flap and with impact can open or move slightly which may cause some damage..plus i heard they do not allow you in navy or U.S navy seals especially because of parachuting and water impacts. so which one is better to get for those purposes of either being a seal or in the navy i already have pretty dry eyes when i wear contacts they dry up very much and i just dont like glasses PRK is done with a laser and theres no cutting involved (so i heard) what are some of the permanent effects that can happen by getting prk if there is any.. LASEK from what i've heard seems to be my favorite because it has a descent recovery time and from what i've looked up on the internet theres no permanent effects and you are still eligible to join seals, navy etc.. oh ok, i didn't really plan on joining the air force though i'm pretty much focusing on getting to army then marines then eventually the seals. thx for the info tho =P  more

Resolved Question: Are my vision problems normal after Lasik? How long is Lasik recovery?

Hey its been about 5 days since I had lasik. My doctor said I should be okay in a day, but I don't feel so. I don't have any pain, however I feel that lasik has not corrected my vision as well as I was before wearing glasses. While I can see stuff on my computer, I get strained after 10 minutes of using it. Also, it feels as if my vision drops every time I use the computer. I've been sleeping/closing my eyes at least 18 hours per day, since I can't seem to do much. I feel like there is some sight left. Is this problem normal? How long will it take to recover from lasik? This is incredibly frustrating.  more

Resolved Question: Why Lasik Eye Surgery India is the best among other eye surgery?

•Lasik is a painless procedure. •It involves the use of a local anaesthetic which is a simple drop on the eye surface. •Time of the surgery can vary according to the needs of the patient. •The flap on the cornea is cut by a special device and lifted out of the way. The surgeon then goes to work re-shaping the tissue beneath the flap and when completed, the flap is replaced. •No stitches or sutures are required •The recovery time can vary from patient to patient.  more

Resolved Question: Who has undergone a LASIK procedure?

I'm interested in knowing how long it took for the operation, how much recovery time you needed, and how bad your vision was before the procedure. I've been wearing glasses for 40 of my 48 years on this planet, and I figure I've spent enough on them to pay for the operation. Also, is there a point at which the effects start to wear off (that is, when the vision starts going bad again)?  more

Voting Question: i have three weeks before i start my new job. what can i do in the meantime to take advantage of my time off?

i have 3 weeks left before i start my new job. i want to take advantage of this time to do stuff that i normally can't do while i'm working. i'm thinking things like: grow a beard, go on a long cruise vacation, change my hair color temporarily, let me hair grow out, undergo elective surgery that requires long recovery time (like lasik eye surgery, etc.). anyone else have good ideas? i've always wanted a long vacation, and now that i have it, i feel like i don't know what to do. oh, and one complicating factor -- i have two very young kids at home, so my ability to just get up and go is quite limited. (although, spending more quality time with my kids is a good way to spend the next few weeks)  more

Voting Question: Should I get lasik surgery before my deployment?

I deploy next year around April 2009, but I am wondering if I should get lasik eye surgery done in December before I go. I wear contacts right now and I know I will be wearing BCGs over there while deployed and if I have the option to not wear them, that'd be great. However, if there is a lengthy recovery time or if it affects my deployment status, I won't. Any input would be appreciated. Will there be a routine check-up involved after my surgery? Because after April, I basically won't be back in the country for a year.  more

Ia am applying with a police dept. that does have an eyesight requirement. It is determined by the doctor. ut I dont want to take any chances. I need to know how long is the recovery because, I am working and can I wear dark glasses for the light sensibility ?  more

Resolved Question: Lasik recovery time?

I recently had Lasik surgery about a week ago (to the day) and I was wondering, on average, how long does it take for your eyes to reach their maximum ability? While I do see a lot better, close to 20/20, there are some things that concern me. One is that I do have slight starbursts or blurring when I look at certain lights, or when I look at daytime glares. Some days it's worse than other, depending on how dry my eyes are on that day. Another concerns my right eye, which was slightly astigmatic. While I see great in it, sometimes I notice slight double-vision and some days it's not as clear as the last..... actually, to be honest, sometimes it just happens in both eyes. I understand the eyes are one of the most delicate places on the body, and I figure any surgery on them would take lightly longer to heal completely, so... Somebody tell me my eyes will get at least a little better, because I'm actually kind of disappointed at this point.  more

Resolved Question: Are contacts giving me an infection? I want to try lasik but Im scared?

Today I woke up with my eye really red and kind of irritated. I looked at myself in the mirror and the cornea was inflated. I wear weekly disposable contact lens and I think that might be the cause. I have been wanting to get Lasik but I'm scared that something may wrong. I heard of people losing their eye site and other that after surgery had to deal with ridiculous cost because of complication after surgery. Have any of you guys have had the surgery done? and how long was the recovery process? If I tighten my panties and decide to go for it, Can you recommend a good doctor in the NYC area?  more

Resolved Question: Can someone describe their vision the first few days after LASIK surgery?

I'm having LASIK this Thursday to correct a high astigmatism. The surgeon is highly recommended, educated, and I trust him completely. I know most people see dramatic results right away, but varying sources say it can take up to 6 months before your vision is stabilized. Has anyone else had this surgery and how well was your recovery time? Were you able to see better right away and go on with daily life as normal?  more

Resolved Question: Has anyone had PRK eye surgery? (not LASIK)?

I'm going in for mine next Thursday, and I'm nervous. I've read alot about it, on here and elsewhere, but, I could really use some testimonials from people who have gone thru it. Is it terrifying? How much pain is involved? What if I get scared and move? What is a realistic recovery time? Thanks in advance! :)  more

Resolved Question: Lasik recovery?

I had Lasik yesterday. I was wondering how long it is before the eyes quit matting up. I was told not to clean them but I have to go to work tomorrow afternoon and they look yucky. I have a follow up today. I am so happy to see w/o glasses though.  more

Resolved Question: Lasik vs. PRK?

OK...I do know all the differences between them and the after care and blah blah blah. My Dr. thinks PRK is better for me although he said I could do either. The reason is, that I play contact sports, my job has a potential for violence everyday and I'm into MMA. Now I can avoid all of the potential risks for awhile until it has fully healed but does it ever become "fully" healed? I know why PRK is a better choice but I'm not really looking forward to the longer and more uncomfortable recovery time. My question is...how long until the flap from Lasik is fully recovered and reattached and there is no risk of it coming off or dislodged etc. Or will it always have the potential to become detached, dislodged etc. etc? If it will always have that potential then I know PRK would be better. Please tell me about the flap and it's reattachment if it does reattach.  more

Resolved Question: Laser eye surgery recovery?

After my LASIK, one of my eyes is extremely dry. The doctor told me on the follow-up that all the dry skin on the surface of the eye was causing my blurred vision. Apart from using eye drops A LOT (I'm a teacher, so I can't just stop every hour or whatever to redo drops), is there something I can use to help my eye heal?  more

Resolved Question: I am planning to have a LASIK treatment? How much would it cost?

Resolved Question: I'm a little scared...?

I'm thinking about getting LASIK surgery, but I think it's the slicing of the area around the eyeball that makes my stomach queasy. Has anyone had the surgery? Do you know the average cost? Can you feel them slice your eyeball?(gag) Is recovery long and/or difficult? I'm just afraid that while they're in there with that laser beam, I'll find myself looking around and then be blinded when the laser beam goes where it shouldn't. HELP!!! (trying to keep my stomach from turning over) Very thorough and mind-easing answer, K-10! Actually everyone had really good answers...thank you all so MUCH! Although I must admit, Sixoclock, that the suction-clamping of the eyeball did make me turn a little green for about 2 1/2 minutes. But, it's good to know I won't be blinded. Again, thanks everybody! =) K-10, I'll be voting yours as the best answer, but I guess I must have accidentally commented before voting, I have to wait 24 hrs to do so. 10 points coming your way...  more
